About Us
Body-Wise
was opened by Laura Clark in 1999 as an off shoot of her experiences.
Our goal is to service each client with a tailored treatment to enhance
healing and relaxation. Meet our Therapists! Laura, Tanja,
Pat & Kelly have combined over 75 years of healing arts experience
from
nursing to physical therapy to exercise science practices. Combining
that with over 20 years of licensed massage therapy practice, we offer
a wide range of modalities to serve your needs.
All Body-Wise therapists are
RI state licensed, are nationally
certified by the National Certifcation Board for Therapeutic Massage
and Bodywork (NCBTMB), and are members of various porfessional
organizations. They are active in continuing education programs to
enhance their knowledge and treatments.
Laura P. Clark, BS, LCMT: believes
her skills can aid your body to help heal itself. Her hands
give the body the impetus it needs to create wellness within itself.
Together,
she and her clients are able to reduce pain, increase range of motion,
and
enhance healing and relaxation.
Graduating from Bancroft School of massage therapy
in 1997, she spent two years working at a variety of places including
spas,
private clinics and physical therapy settings. The one she most enjoyed
was the
RI Veteran's home in Bristol. These
experiences led her to opening
Body-Wise to service the people in her own community. Within each of
these settings, Laura has seen a host of conditons and
have treated people with, sports injuries, decreased range of motion,
acute and
chronic low back pain, fibromyalgia, migraines, cancer and the general
stresses
of life.
Laura has performed over 10,000 treatments and her regular clients say
that each treatment is different from the last. This is due to her
dedication
to learning about a variety of bodywork modalities. Her education is
extensive.
She chooses modalities such as hot stones therapy, myofascial release,
deep
tissue, reflexology, reiki and craniosacraol skills to provide the
client the
touch they need. Currently, she is enrolled in a 300 hr aromatherapy
program and
incorporates this, if requested, into her treatments. With her vast
knowledge
and hands-on experiences, treatments with Laura are highly therapeutic
and deeply
relaxing.
It's easy to become a client of Laura's. An appointment with her is
simply a phone call away!
Tanja
Kravanja, PTA, LCMT: creates an amazing
therapeutic and relaxing experience for everyone who comes to her
massage table. The blend of
therapies she uses (relaxation, craniosacral, myofascial to name a
few), allows her to
design a cohesive treatment plan for her clients. This not only reduces
her client's pain,
increases their range of motion but also gives them a deep sense of
relaxation. This sense of
relaxation lasts far beyond their time with Tanja.
Tanja has been
a Physical therapy assistant since 1997 and has practiced for the past
8 years at Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center
in Newport. She began
her massage experience as an intern at Body Wise in '01 and has been
here since then using her massage and hands on healing skills for those
fortunate enough to work withher. Tanja's
thirst for hands on bodywork knowledge is evident. She continually
participates in seminars and workshops that enhance her
hands on abilities. She enjoys most her educational experience with
the Upledger Institute where she is in
pursuit of her Craniosacral Therapist
Certification.
Because of
this training and her physical therapy work, she can draw from a wide
base of knowledge and experience that best benefits her
clients. Her clients see relief from a variety of challenges including
neck spasms, injuries
from accident and overuse syndromes, those recovering from surgery and
those
experiencing stress in their lives. Her experience and intuition give
her the ability to create
a variety of treatments that restore health and increase relaxation.
This enhances her
client’s well-being and improves their
quality of life experiences. Join those who experience her work
by making

Pat
Bachus, BSN, LCMT: was called to
massage
therapy. After a nursing career that
spanned 45 years, she went back to school. She
became a licensed and nationally certified therapist
in 2001 and has
been enhancing her clients' lives ever since. Through her therapeutic
and
healing hands, one comes off of Pa's massage table a more relaxed and
centered
person.
Pat's
training and intuition have allowed her to help heal a variety of
clients.
Issues such as neck & low back pain and decreased range of motion
melt
under her capable hands. Beyond her basic schooling, Pat has attended
many workshops in a wide variety of therapeutic modalities to meet the
needs of her clients.
Her
training and volunteerism in the profession (Pat is an active
participant in the RI chapter of the AMTA and is largely responsible of
the hosting of local educational programs for therapistis throughout
the northeast) is palpable to all of Pat's
clients. It has created a deep knowledge
of the body: its pain and challenges. It has given her the ability to
give relief to those who seek it. Due to her
vast experiences and her intuition, she creates individualized sessions
for her
clients each and every time they come to Body-Wise.
She enjoys working with all individuals. Pat's blend of
deep tissue, Swedish
relaxation and energy work is felt deeply by all. Along with her use of
passive
range of motion stretches, she decreases pain and increases the range
of motion
of all she touches.
This offers her
clients a
therapeutic and deeply relaxing experience for healing and relief. Her clients say that her hands and sense of
presence are felt throughout their treatment session are effective and
help
them improve their lives. Join Pat for a massage and see how you will
receive
these benefits!
Kelly
Raine-Akins, LCMT is our newest
therapist
having joined our team in the fall of 2007. She is a recent graduate of
the Piedmont School of Massage
Therapy in Virginia.
Kelly has a holistic approach to those she treats and views the body as
a
whole. As a client, you will experience an exceptionally relaxing and
healing
experience.
Prior to joining Body-Wise, Kelly worked with Piedmont School
as an adjunct therapist. Her
sessions there incorporated relaxation, sports, deep tissue and
neuromuscular
therapies. She continues creating
treatments for her clients with a collection of these therapies that
decrease
pain and enhance relaxation.
As an athlete,
she particularly
enjoys working with the sports enthusiast in enhancing their endeavors.
This
includes those pursuing or wishing to pursue fitness as a lifestyle in
general.
Her work helps in speeding the recovery from your workout, decreasing
muscular
soreness and improving upon one's flexibility.
Kelly, while
having graduated a
year ago, continues to be engaged in her training. She has a thirst for
knowledge and seeks it to ensure that her clients receive exceptional
care. She
currently is enjoying the trainings of Reiki and Body Talk which
balance the muscular
care she gives with other energies of her clients. This creates not
only a
therapeutic result but a relaxing treatment for those who choose to
schedule an
appointment wit her.
Kelly's primary focus
is working
with the military and department of defense employees on the Navy Base
in Newport
at our office at
Gym 109. As a wife of a navy lieutenant, she has first hand knowledge
of the
special needs of those clients she sees at the base.
She is also available for appointments at our
main office in Middletown.
